WHY STUDY BUSINESS ENTERPRISES?

 

This subject aims to take students on and exciting journey into the world of business enterprise. It provides an introduction to and an awareness of business activities and the business world. It has been designed to provide students with a wider understanding of their dual role as consumers and citizens and provides an insight into the operations of small business management.

Business Enterprise is designed to help young people understand the activities of business in the business world. Everyone will either work or own their own business – therefore ‘business enterprise' is a necessary part of life.

It will provide them with basic knowledge if they have aspirations to:

•  Provide basic knowledge to assist in gaining employment in the Administration area of public / private enterprises

•  Study Business Organisation and Management in Senior and then to a Business Management degree in the future

•  Provides skills to support a range of other subjects

WHAT IS STUDIED?

 

The course is organised as follows:

•  The Business World

•  Marketing and Desktop Publishing

Business Management

•  Enterprise and Wealth Creation

•  Enterprise Ventures

•  Technology in Enterprises

 

During the course students will study:

 

•  Various aspects of the business world, what it means to be an entrepreneur, legal and administrative requirements for businesses etc

•  Use technology to design and promote a product/service of their choice

•  Day to day issues of running a business eg employee benefits, employer-employee relations etc

•  Astuteness in money matters

•  Insights into evaluating the viabilities of buying/starting a business

•  Develop, create, market and sell a product or service to the school community

•  Current and potential use of technology in small business

• Investigate technological advances which may create business opportunities

Establishing objectives, allocating tasks, managing time, setting schedules, completing tasks

 

ASSESSMENT PROGRAM AND EXPECTATIONS

 

There will be a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 assessment instruments per semester ranging from:

•  Group and peer evaluation

•  Teacher Observation

•  Assignments

•  In-class examinations

•  Non-Written Presentations

•  Folio of work

VHA Majority of A's and nothing less than a B

HA Majority of B's and nothing less than a C

SA Majority of C's and nothing less than a D

LA Majority of D's
