WHY STUDY BUSINESS FINANCE?

 

This subject aims to develop an awareness of the role, relevance and importance of business in society. It has been designed for students who wish to develop understandings, skills, abilities and attitudes to allow them to participate in business in a variety of ways.

It will provide you with basic knowledge if you have aspirations to:

•  Own your own business in future

•  Study Accounting in Senior and then do an Accountancy degree.

•  Study Business Organisation and Management in Senior and then a Business Management course

•  Hold various positions in clubs such as treasurer, etc

•  Make informed decision relating to own wealth creation in the future

•  Gain knowledge associated with own personal finances

•  Give basic knowledge to assist in gaining employment in business fields

WHAT IS STUDIED?

 

The course is organised as follows:

•  Personal Finance

•  Cash v's Credit

•  Wealth Creation

•  Business Documents

•  Small Business Accounting Foundations

•  Clubs & Societies

•  Elective: MYOB (time permitting)

 

During the course students will study:

 

•  The sources of income and the disposal of personal income

•  Preparation of personal budgets

•  The advantages and disadvantages of using cash and credit and associated costs

•  Investment in property, managed funds, cash investments and the share market

•  Preparation of a variety of business documents

•  Principles of double entry accounting

•  Preparation of accounting records including GST

•  The records for a club and society

•  Fundamentals of the accounting system using computer accounting package

•  Knowledge, interpretation and evaluation

  Recall, understanding, comprehension, critical thinking, making decisions,

problem solving

•  Practical procedures

Record/Process accounting information

 

ASSESSMENT PROGRAM AND EXPECTATIONS

 

A range of assessment techniques will be used eg

• Tests/Examinations (including response to stimulus, extended writing, etc)

•  Projects / Assignments

•  Oral presentations
