Taking into account the academic and social needs of students, programs can be individualised to best address student’s needs and minimise the impact of their disability.
Programs are individually outlined through negotiation between the HOSES, student and parents/careers. Some options available include:
Involvement in an alternative program within the special education unit, concentrating on the development of functional literacy, numeracy and lifeskills. Students may gain exposure through this program to ID & T (Industrial Design & Technology), Art, Drama, Computer Skills, Physical Education, Cooking, Sewing, work experience and Gardening.
Supported participation in mainstream classes, with options to modify curriculum and assessment requirements available(Regular classes with their same aged peers)
Reduced timetable (5 subjects instead of 6) to address anxiety issues. Sixth line used to complete assessment and participate in disability specific programs.
