MR BRIAN VAN DER WEIDE

Brian is a level two volleyball coach. He has coached the Qld Volleyball Association State U17 Women’s team from 1988-1985, winning 3 Gold, 3 Silver and a Bronze Medal at National Championships. Moving to Gladstone saw the formation of Central Qld U17’s (based in Gladstone)

which in 1997/98 competed successfully at National Championships, being the best placed country team in the Nation.

In 1998 Gladstone achieved the Central Queensland indoor title and beach title in both Open and U15’s. At the 1998 State Championships all teams finished in the Top 10 in Qld with the Open Team finishing 4th, qualifying for honours at the National Championships. The U14’s were successful in winning the National Title at these same Championships.

1999 the Volleyball School of Excellence achieved honours by being the  Champion Beach School, Gold QSSVA under 15, Silver under 15 Schools cup and Bronze at the National Schools Cup.

In the year 1999- 2004 Gladstone SOE won the State Schools Cup in Open and under 15 Honours.  2004 our under 14 team also won the National Championship.

Brian has also coached the State Secondary School Girls in the U15 and Open divisions with international competition against New Zealand and Japan. In 2000 Brian was awarded the Life Membership to Queensland Schools Volleyball . Coach of the year for Queensland in 2001 and life Membership to Queensland Volleyball in 2002.  He has coached representative teams continuous for the last 19 years.

He has been Australian Assistant Youth and Junior coach with international campaigns  in New Zealand and The 4th Asian Youth Championships in Thailand 

Another highlight was a scholarship to coach in the USA where Brian was Assistant Coach of the USA Youth National Team. He was also the full time coach of College players in the 1993 summer season for USVBA Mid America Program. Brian returned in 2004 and 2005 where he coached at Oregon University .
