NRG PROGRAM

GLADSTONE SCHOOLS ENGINEERING SKILLS CENTRE

Overview

This program offers students an opportunity to learn and work in an industrial environment (NRG Gladstone Power Station) and would be of benefit to those interested in an apprenticeship or traineeship in the engineering trades. The program has been developed in conjunction with local industry and has resulted in the majority of students gaining an apprenticeship in the engineering field.

Students will work at the Skills Centre for one and a half days a week, one day industry placement and the other two days at school taking English Communication, Pre-Vocational Maths and possibly MultiStrand Science. Starting time will be 7.30am and finishing at 3.30pm on the full day and 7.30am to 12.30pm on the half day. Students will be required to supply their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which will include work clothes, steel capped boots, safety glasses and hard hat.
