Most VET studies undertaken by GSHS students are in the Study Area Specifications (SAS) area for Authority Registered Subjects. VET qualifications gained by stdents in Authority-registered subjects do not contribute to the calculation of the Overall Position (OP) for tertiary entrance.

SAS's fall into three categories - Approach A, Approach B and Approach C.

Approach A - VET certificates and includes:

Approach B - Vocational Learning Strand/s and includes:

Approach C - currently not offered but is a combination of A and B.
