SCHOOL BASED APPRENTICESHIPS & TRAINEESHIPS
Definition: Apprenticeship - when you are involved in a trade. Traineeship - provision of services in a vocational area. What is a School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SAT)? A SAT is a contract of training and paid employment where a school student's timetable or curriculum reflects a combination of work, training and school study, which together lead to an award of a Senior Certificate or its equivalent, and progress towards a Vocational qualification. According to the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) guidelines, school-based apprenticeships are primarily designed for Year 11 and 12 students. All SAT's must be supported by an Education, Training and Employment Schedule (ETES form), a document which lists the times and hours the school based apprentice or trainee is undertaking schooling, training and/or paid work. When a training contract for a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship is submitted for registration, the supervising Registered Training Organisation (RTO) must attach a signed declaration form confirming that a number of obligations have been met. This includes the requirement that a number of obligations have been met, including the requirement that the ETES has been developed and agreed on by all parties involved. A SAT allows a student who is completing general or vocational subjects to continue with schooling and be placed on a training contract. The students can thus obtain a training wage as well as training and experience in a vocational field while still attending school. Generally students are attached to an employer for one day a week. In some cases students may be required to attend training on another day as well. Student's traineeship days at GSHS vary depending upon the need to the student and the emplyer. Currrently there are students away from school each weekday. If your student has an SAT they must see Mrs Houghton in the Business staffroom to discuss the ETES form and to modify their timetable.
This form is crucial for the registration of the SAT and students are responsible for ensuring all signatures are collected. The Education, Training and Emplyment Schedule form can be downloaded here: download Websites for further information include: |
